Green Party Candidate for Whetstone By-election 15 May

I am standing as the Green Party candidate for Whetstone Ward because Barnet deserves better and greener. Born and raised in Barnet, I care deeply about our borough and the people who live here. Aside from a few years away for university, I have called this area home my whole life. I know its strengths, and I know where it is failing.

Barnet Council needs fresh ideas and imagination to improve how things are run. People are struggling and need social protection more than ever. As a designer and artist, I will bring a creative approach to the problems Whetstone faces.

I helped co-found the Community Quilt Project in Barnet, working with local people to build links between communities.

I campaign locally and nationally for disabled people’s rights, with a focus on social care. Living with chronic health conditions myself, I understand how hard it is to have choice and control and to feel connected to others.

I also helped organise the first ever Barnet Pride event in 2023.

I am standing because we need real hope and real change. Barnet’s leadership has been too focused on short term wins and polished PR. They are cutting services to people who need them the most and leaving communities behind. As a Green Councillor, I believe decisions should be made with people, not imposed on them.

My priorities for Whetstone and all of Barnet include:

  • Protecting our public services from cuts and ensuring we invest in local infrastructure including roads, cycle routes and public transport.
  • Transforming social care to a needs-based not resource-led public provision that truly puts older and disabled people at its heart and uses resources to make lives better, not increase crisis.
  • Expanding affordable, accessible and safe housing for all and protecting renters from exploitative landlords.
  • Preserving and expanding our green spaces, particularly in urbanised areas, standing up to harmful developers and promoting environmental justice and sustainability at every level.
  • Supporting our diverse and vibrant local businesses, shops and restaurants to thrive and boost our local economy and protect them from corporate chains.
  • Promoting community-led projects and initiatives to ensure voices from across our community help shape council priorities.

I am not a career politician. I am someone who believes that ordinary people should be at the heart of how things are run locally. I would represent Whetstone by putting people first. We know what matters most and so I would listen to the needs of residents, helping to build a borough where everyone is heard, valued and empowered. It is vital that we have alternative Green voices in the Council to represent Whetstone and hold leadership to account.
